Robin is 79 years old and still putting out high level music like this is just incredible. As a guitar player, when I hear his choice of chords and phrasing I want to be him. Robin is a blues master that does not get the attention he most definitely deserves. He should be up there with Clapton, Page and Beck.

Typically solid Trower effort.
I have read where Robin never got the acclaim and recognition he deserves because he was not a good looking guy like Beck, Clapton, Page etal. There may be a grain of truth to that because we have always felt he was right up there in this elite startosphere. I think he's actually my favorite. For example, I'll put Twice Removed From Yesterday and Bridge both right up there with anything his contemporaries ever did. The female singer fits in well here too. Have already made a note to get this CD as soon as possible so I can work it out in my Harmon Kardon in the car. |

I’m with you guys about how some never hit interstellar overdrive. You might think looks. I’d have to agree that’s part of it. But imho it’s that elusive top 40 number one hit or hits that really makes them a kind of God. That kind of catchy, snappy song that connects with the masses at that time in space. Another one that was kind of passed over imho was Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. I mean come on, Jim Morrison couldn’t play a lick. Same with Elvis. But throw a pic up, everyone knows who they were. And o yeah……… thx Mark for putting that up. Great sound from Trower again👏🏻 |

I saw this post and could not resist sending a reply. i could not agree with you guys more about Robin not getting the accolades he deserves. the guy has been releasing music since his days with Procol Harem for pete's sakes and this latest is one of his best in a while. His guitar sound changed a bit on certain albums, I assume to make it sound more current or whatever, but this latest one gets back to what he sounded like long ago. Yes, Sari is a great singer and also wrote the songs so she deserves a lot of credit. I love Robin Trower.

Trower is still kicking a$$ and the gal can sing. And Grado nailed it with his comment about Robin never hitting "interstellar overdrive" like he should have.

I absolutely agree and I think it was partly due to the telecommunications act that was passed in the mid 90's that lifted the restriction for how many radio stations one company could own. So after that, most of the local stations were bought out and were all run by one manager which resulted in the homogenization of playlists. In a nutshell, they determined what songs were popular across the entire country and reduced the playlists to only those songs. That's why you hear the same crap repeated over and over on the classic radio stations and many great songs were never heard again. That's a sad story.

I recall hearing rumblings to that affect but never really got a good description. I have also heard the term "death of terrestrial radio" whatever that means. I assume they are getting beat up by XM and the streaming services and the fact that FM radio does suck.

But he was at Woodstock and did have hits on the radio back in the 70's. I think it was more of a got left behind sort of thing and was not included in the "classic rock" library when big business took over FM radio. Tragic. You are right though about him not being recognizable like Elvis or Morrison. Not sure why though because he wasn't a bad looking bloke. |

Good points Walter. One would think Alvin Lee would not have been missed by folks as classic rock.
Then again, maybe it's just as well because they have recycled it all so much it's a snooze, by and large. |
