Sad that he passed but the new album is out in November. Mixed bag of material in his career that didn't match my style preferences but a lot of folks loved it.
This is cool because some former Beatle dropped in to Buffett's place in Long Island for a visit. He didn't bring one of his left-handed basses along with him. So Jimmy had someone restring a bass that he had at home and let this dude play it in this tune. He's definitely on the short short list of best bass players of all time, I think. |

Much like you, seymouro, Jimmy wasn't at the top of my playlist but wasn't at the bottom either. He definitely had a corner on the market for that island music stuff. Great party vibe and always looked to be having a great time. I actually like this tune and is cool that Paul is on it and you can also hear Emmylou Harris on backup vocals. Very cool.

Right on, right on, right on.
Emmylou Harris is a legend. So good to hear her. She was on a few good Neil Young tracks too, among others. |

Quite sad to lose Jimmy Buffet. Seemed like the kind of guy that would be fun to hang out with. He had a cult following... the parrot heads, that always reminded me of the dead heads. Devoted fans would go to concerts dressed for the occasion and always a party atmosphere. I never went to an actual Buffet concert but i went to see a tribute band at a local beach and it was the same crowd that would go to his concerts.

Paul building his legacy.
Lady Gaga kinda did the same thing. I mean, how many of this generation will be able to say they sang with Tony Bennett. And ya, Cheesburger in paradise, that whole vibe, who wouldn’t love that. But make no mistake, Buffet was a businessman. Back in the 8Os, I used to go to this waterfront bar just off the Chesapeake Bay. It was a small place called Parrotts Head. The whole vibe was a kind of Jimmy buffet place. Nothing but Buffet on the old vintage juke box. Fake Palm Trees, old fishing nets hanging from the ceiling, a real good off the path to just chill. Plus, they had these killer TShirts, with a Parrots Head on them, with a a super colorful Parrot and rainbow kind of background. I had one and would wear it sometimes to a concert or dive in South Baltimore. It was awesome, sometimes a stranger, girls and guys would see it know the place and you were an instant friend. They were expensive, but really cool. Well, apparently on night one of Jimmy’s guys somehow heard about the place, stopped in and checked it out. Within a month the bar was hit with an injunction from one of Buffets lawyers. Cease and desist. They had to destroy all the shirts, and change the name, along with the $5,000 sign out front. Lol…….the owner was so pissed he took every Buttet tune off the juke, and for about 6 months, if you even mentioned Jimmy Buffet or one of his songs, he would personally throw you out of the place. True story. |

Thinking back on it………….The owner renamed the place The Paradise Inn. Said they messed with that even, but the little community was called Paradise Point, and had been for over 50 years, eventually they let it go. Funny, it just never was the same after that…… |

Great story and I would love to hear all the details from both sides. I understand copyright and trademark stuff enough just from being involved in music (even at my lowly level) so it surprises me that Buffet Inc shut them down as apposed to taking a percentage. In any case it's sad that a cool place had to shut down but apparently the owner didn't bother to make sure he wasn't violating a copyright or trademark.
